MUSIC & DRAMA COMPANY

The Music & Drama Company (MDC) is where local talent gets discovered. Well-known Singaporean artistes like Dick Lee, JJ Lin, Jeremy Monteiro, Najib Ali & Nathan Hartono have all passed through the gates of MDC during their National Service or as they started their professional careers.


MDC was first formed in 1973 to strengthen the morale of SAF soldiers through live entertainment. It has, come a long way from performing on a makeshift stage formed by three-tonners, to a highly professional company capable of staging multimedia song and dance performances, musicals, music videos, and much more. Even as MDC evolves, it continues with its proud heritage of performing for soldiers, with soldiers.

AFIQ N

Afiq started dancing when he was five. The versatile dancer is familiar with various genres, including contemporary, street, ballet and ethnic Malay dance. While he primarily dances, he also dabbles in singing and acting. Aside from performing, Afiq is also the creative producer, choreographer and contemporary dance technique instructor for a local dance company. His warm, humble and hardworking personality makes him an excellent teacher. Talented and determined, Afiq never fails to bring a splendid performance to his audiences.

AFIQ A

A passionate performer who loves to sing, dance and act, Afiq holds a BA (Hons) in Musical theatre from Lasalle College of the Arts and has been actively pursuing his career as a performing artiste. Well versed in different genres of dance like Jazz, Hip Hop, Ballet, Contemporary, he is also trained in classical singing. A hardworking and supportive leader, Afiq also co-founded a dance collective group, MT Unite, to create a platform for him and his peers to continue training together and further improve the standard of dance in the Singapore Musical Theatre scene. He has also taught children Hip Hop and Show Choir at numerous studios.

AGNES

Hardworking and passionate, Agnes enjoys learning and is determined to keep improving herself, constantly taking courses in hip hop, breakdance, ballet, contemporary, waacking, KKardio fitness and pole dancing. Agnes also teaches both children & adults various dance techniques. No stranger to performing on stage, Agnes’ dance performances have won recognition at several competitions. We love seeing her shine on stage.

ANN

Ann’s prowess in performance sport – Rhythmic Gymnastics – has served her well in dance. She has represented Singapore at various tournaments like the 2010 Youth Olympics Games and won the Gold Medal for the 2015 SEA Games in Rhythmic Gymnastics Group Event. These competitions have equipped Ann with a good sense of balance, coordination and good teamwork. Other than performing, she also teaches Rhythmic Gymnastics in schools. On a personal level, Ann enjoys singing and eating!

CANDY

Candy joined Music & Drama Company 8 years ago armed only with the dream to become a successful performing artiste. She had no prior dance training nor professional experience. With MDC’s rigorous training and her own initiative to take dance classes on her own time, Candy has become a competent stage performer. She also attends classes in hosting and singing and can play the keyboard, ukulele, plus a distinction in Grade 5 ABRSM Music Theory. On a personal level, Candy likes to read, listen to music and especially enjoys writing poems.

CHAOPENG

Chaopeng is a natural-born dancer. Passionate and hardworking, he is proficient in many genres of dance including Contemporary, Jazz, Street Jazz, Hip-hop, Kpop, Dance Fitness (K-Kardio) & Ethnic dance. He is currently learning how to pole-dance! Dancing aside, Chaopeng also choreographs show items. When he’s not working, he loves aqua-scaping, keeping fish and showing off his swift dance moves on social media.

CLAUDINE

Claudine was only 10 when she first performed professionally. It was for The Nutcracker with the Singapore Dance Theatre. Today the performing artiste is also a trainer and performs various genres including contemporary, jazz, hip hop and musical theatre. When not dancing, the free-spirited Claudine is an avid reader, writer and traveller and loves nature hiking and high adrenaline sports like boxing.

COSMAS

Cosmas’ love for dance started when he was in Primary school. His training in Latin-America Ballroom dance, Contemporary, Jazz and Hip-hop has led him to work with various local and overseas choreographers, performances, events and competitions. Those who know Cosmas appreciate him for his humility and ability to work with people of all ages. He has been teaching technique class and courses at various dance studios and conducted Masterclass workshops for National University Singapore. Other than his passion for dance, Cosmas enjoys sports and loves spending time with his family and his fur babies. Fun fact: he is part of Singapore’s first set of male quadruplets!

JESLYN

Jeslyn has been dancing professionally since graduating from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) with a Diploma in Dance. This passionate dancer is no stranger to competitions. Her awards include the Gold Award in Asia Youth Dance 2011, first place in the 14th Asia Pacific Dance Competition in Singapore, and Best Dancer Award in The Royal Dance Off Competition. Her enthusiastic, humorous and bubbly personality makes Jeslyn an easy favourite in the team.

JIE YU

Don’t be deceived by her humility and petite school-girl frame. Jie Yu is no newbie to the profession, with nine years of dance experience under her belt. Having discovered her passion in secondary school, Jie Yu enrolled herself in a ballet course and graduated with a merit in Grade 8. Jie Yu teaches fitness and dance classes. Passionate and always ready to put in the extra effort to hone her craft, she is now trying to get Aerial Hoop under her belt!

KEVIN T

Kevin is a young and talented dancer who started his dance training at the School Of The Arts Singapore (SOTA) where he studied ballet and contemporary dance for six years. Kevin also went through training at prestigious companies and schools such as the Nederlands Dans Theater and the Australian Ballet School. He is able to perform different styles and has also picked up choreography. He has been invited to audition at many prestigious companies overseas such as Ballet BC and Rambert. In his free time, Kevin likes to model, sing, binge on Netflix and create content on Instagram and TikTok.

KIMBERLY

Kimberly had dreamed of becoming a performer ever since she was a child. Her dream came true when she joined the Music & Drama Company. She started her career as a singer and had no prior experience nor formal professional training in dance. She has since been training rigorously in dancing and acting and now season commands the stage with her strong performances. When not working, Kimberly enjoys dabbling in makeup, beauty techniques, reading and spending time with her family and two dogs.

KRISHA

Krisha’s mantra is “do what feels right”. The versatile artiste uses dance to innovate, inspire and according to her, challenge the status quo. With 10 years of professional dance experience behind her, she trains and nurtures a younger generation of dancers in studios and schools. Krisha has also choreographed various performances and aspires to continue to impact lives through her love of dance.

LISA

Lisa started dancing at the tender age of six. Hardworking and versatile, she has the ability to make any dance genre seem effortless. Being one of the more experienced dancers in Music & Drama Company, Lisa has represented the company in numerous national events. Lisa also choreographs and coaches MDC’s new dancers. All these priceless experiences have shaped Lisa into an all-rounded professional dancer. Apart from dance, she is also interested in sports, fitness, baking and design.

LUM LUM

Lum Lum is trained in theatre performance & productions and is currently a Dancehall Instructor, whose dance style is constantly inspired by various street and contemporary styles. With eight years of dance experience behind her, Lum Lum has morphed from being a dancer to a teacher, actress, singer and has even hosted events with an audience size of over 10,000. Lum Lum is continually testing her limits and pushing her craft to the next level so that she can better serve her audience.

MIKAEL

An ardent dancer, Mikael has been dancing for seven years now. His dance journey began from breaking and he has since merged his style with other dance forms like modern, hip hop and contemporary. A talented dancer, he has participated in various competitions and was 1st runner up at the Super 24 ASEAN Open Championship. Since joining the Music & Drama Company, Mikael has also performed classical, modern and acrobatic dance. He also loves designing, editing and creating video content.

NATASHA

Natasha’s journey in dance started when she participated in the Singapore Youth Festival for Chinese Dance and International Dance, where her school won the Gold! She graduated with a Diploma in Dance (Comprehensive) from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) and took up a three-year Modern Jazz course. She’s also received a gold award in the 3rd Asia Youth Dance Festival. Her me-time includes reading, swimming, yoga and pilates.

PAT JON

Pat Jon Gregory has always been well exposed to the multicultural diversity of the entertainment industry. During his diploma education at Temasek Polytechnic, he actively participated in the school’s dance club that focused on street and contemporary dance. Those years aided him greatly in sharpening his dance skills and culminated in his dance crew emerging as Champion of the Super 24 ASEAN Open Category Dance Competition 2018. Pat Jon graduated from the BA (Hons) Musical Theatre Programme at LASALLE College of the Arts and it was there that he discovered many approaches towards storytelling, dance choreography and character building which shaped him into the performer he is today.

SHAUNA

Shauna has loved dancing and performing since her Primary School days. After that, she started pursuing Dance more seriously in her Polytechnic years where she was exposed to a variety of street dance styles like Hip Hop, Street Jazz and Dancehall. She is especially passionate about the Dancehall genre and has contributed to the growth of the Dancehall scene in Singapore, through her classes, workshops and involvement in events for the last 5 years. Aside from performances, she also emceed for Runway Asia in both 2018 and 2019. On a personal level, Shauna is a foodie, a huge fan of film and the world of psychology!

SHIRLEY

With a Bachelor’s degree in Theatre from NAFA and 12 years of dancing experience, Shirley is one of the more experienced dancers in the Music & Drama Company. Trained in Chinese classical and folk dance, the petite dancer was once crowned Champion for the Female Soloist category in a contemporary Dance Competition she competed in. Her other notable performances include the local musical 881 and Our Xin Yao Concert 2015. Apart from dance, Shirley also had a stint in acting and was the acting head of the junior drama department in the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) school of young talent In her free time, Shirley loves reading, writing and yoga.

ARIESSA

Ariessa is a competent and hardworking singer, emcee and actress, that has performed on many different platforms and stages nationally. Other than singing, hosting and acting for various Music & Drama Company events, Ariessa has also been featured in various music videos. An animal lover and vegetarian, Ariessa fosters rescued animals, volunteers with rescue groups and pet-sitters, and is interested in making clay earrings and soap.

DOMINIC

Dominic started as a singer-songwriter by recording and uploading song covers of different genres as a hobby in his teens. He loves rearranging songs to give them a new lease of life. He is also well-versed in producing music and playing the violin. Passionate about his craft, he has written many songs and even performed some of them at national events and special gigs. Over the years, he has released several original composed singles. Highly creative and enthusiastic about his work, Dominic is a dynamic individual who is always looking for new ways to express his musical talents.

FRANCES

A graduand from LASALLE College of the Arts, Frances is often making waves in the Singapore theatre scene. At the tender age of eight, she was picked for a role in the children’s version of the local theatre show “Beauty World”. Since her professional debut in 2014, she has received numerous award nominations and clinched the title of Best Newcomer of 2016. Apart from theatre, Frances has also displayed her acting chops on local television. However, singing has always been Frances’ first love. In 2017, this powerhouse vocalist held her own one-woman sold-out concert of an evening of jazz songs. She has also performed internationally, representing Singapore in numerous official events. Frances’ talent for expressive storytelling has also made her a wonderful host, and in essence, an incredibly versatile performer.

GAIL

Gail Belmonte has an effortless voice that radiates beauty. She is an emotional performer who seeks to unlock the hearts of her listeners through her music. No stranger to the stage, Gail started performing at the age of two and has been making waves in the music scene both locally and abroad. When she was five, she made her first television appearance. And in 2017, her strong passion for performing led her to extend her artistry to theatre, debuting in the Tony award-winning musical, “Fun Home”. During her free time, she writes her own music and she has since released a single. Gail hopes to release more of her self-written work. A vegetarian, Gail also has a soft spot for animals.

JUNI

Known as a passionate and professional vocalist, Juni is an all-round entertainer. He is a stage actor, bilingual emcee and best known as the lead singer of award-winning home-grown vocal band, MICappella. After emerging a runner-up on China’s reality competition “The Sing-Off China” in 2012, the band went on to make history by being the first acappella group to be nominated for four awards in the 18th Annual Singapore Hits Awards. They released two albums, travelled the world performing, had a sold-out concert at the Capitol Theatre and performed their viral hit Evolution of NDP Songs for the National Day Parade in 2018. Juni’s strength is in live performances and his natural charisma shines through his strong vocals, a result of more than a decade of performing experience.

KEVIN B

Kevin applies his unique sense of storytelling to the performing arts. From hosting to being part of show productions, he has been involved in a show’s ideation to execution. With the stage as his second home, Kevin never fails to shine whenever he is on it whether singing or hosting events. Off-stage, Kevin also loves doing hair & makeup for stage and shoots.

KHIM

Known as a Powerhouse singer, Khim started performing at 13 when she participated in the local reality TV Chinese singing competition “Campus Superstar”. Though she was the youngest in the competition, her husky and powerful voice wowed the judges. In 2017, Khim joined one of the biggest Chinese reality talent shows “Sing! China 2017”. Apart from being in singing competitions, Khim has ten years of experience in singing commercially and hosting events. Full of energy and ever ready to take on new challenges, Khim is also a coach for vocal techniques and stage presence. She loves cooking and working out in her free time.

RAE

Put Rae on the stage and watch her shine! Since joining the Music & Drama Company, Rae has undergone dance, vocal and emcee training. She has been featured as a singer in various music videos. Rae is also the DJ for the radio programme, The Backstage Pass with Music & Drama Company on Power 98 LOVE SONGS. Rae is enthusiastic and serious about her craft, and often impresses audiences effortlessly with her charming vocals and natural grasp of performing. Her versatility in singing, dancing & hosting is undeniable and she has a strong love for aerial stunts.

RINES

An avid music lover, RINES’s love for music started when she listened to music icons in her father’s CD shop as a young girl. In her teenage years, she started listening to J-pop and J-rock. That’s when she decided to pursue an education in music and graduated with a Diploma in Jazz Music Performance Voice Major. RINES enjoys entertaining the crowd with live music. She also enjoys experimenting with different genres when she writes her original song compositions. She has plans to release her originals soon and hopes to venture into a new genre within the Singaporean music scene. On a personal level, this girl-next-door expresses her emotions through art forms, like drawing, painting and writing. She also loves reading, philosophy and writing poetry.

Ann Gie’s music journey began at the tender age of five. Her passion for music continued when she joined the music elective programmes in Raffles Girls’ School and Raffles Institution. This led her to fall in love with jazz. Her talents span musical theatre and classical performance. Ann Gie has performed alongside various international and local jazz artists and is currently the pianist in the Jazz Association of Singapore Youth Orchestra led by Cultural Medallion Recipient, Jeremy Monterio. Outside work, she enjoys bubble tea, crocheting and good food.

BENJAMIN

Music was just a hobby to Ben until he enrolled into LASALLE College of the Arts where he developed a passion for music. The articulate and melodic bass player honed his craft under the tutelage of Christy Smith and then completed his BA (Hons) Music in Jazz Performance with First Class Honours. Ben’s versatility and ability to play across genres have seen him taking up session work with various sought-after musicians. These experiences have shaped Ben into a professional and competent musician. In his free time, Ben likes to cook and he shares his love for music and food on his social media.

BOM

Bom is a highly sought-after drummer and percussionist in the Asian music scene, playing various genres ranging from Soul, Pop, R&B, Hip Hop and many more. With a Diploma in Music, Bom recently introduced the use of an electronic drum machine into the corporate events music industry. He specially picked and created drum samples and sounds to elevate the performances. Bom sometimes doubles up as a hype man at events and company parties. He is currently producing for local hip hop and R&B artistes. Apart from music, Bom is a car enthusiast, loves creating videos and cooking.

DAVID

David started taking music lessons at the age of four. An active composer and performer, David’s repertoire include classical music and jazz standards. He is best known as a chamber player and session musician. Recently, David composed the soundtrack for the movie “Strings of Sorrow” which premiered at the 2019 4th International Film Festival and Awards in Macau, as well as the soundtrack to the local documentary “3 Cents a Kilo”. He also recently completed a commission for the Singapore Symphony Orchestra.

FENG

Feng is a graduate and scholarship recipient from the esteemed Berklee College of Music in Boston USA and is now a music producer and session guitarist. He was handpicked by American Idol Judge and Grammy-Nominated Songwriter, Kara DioGuardi to be a music producer in her course “Hitmaking”. While in college, he had the opportunity to co-write with John Oates, one half of the legendary Hall & Oates duo. Feng’s musical versatility has seen him performing with a variety of artistes. His active collaborations in the music industry are a testament to his talent and commitment to music.

JOCELYN

Violin became part of Jocelyn’s life when she began lessons at the young age of four, and she hasn’t looked back since. She graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Music with Honors from London’s Royal College of Music in collaboration with the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) School of Music in 2018. Although Jocelyn is classically trained, she also ventures into jazz, rock and pop. This talented lady was assigned the role of co-concertmaster of the Musician’s Initiative and SPOT Pocket Opera Music Ensemble. She was also invited to be on the panel of Asia Arts Festival 2019. Besides music, Jocelyn’s other interests are fashion and styling.

JONATAN

Jonatan graduated with a Diploma in Information Technology from Ngee Ann Polytechnic and started performing at various hotels as a resident pianist. He is well-versed in piano, bass, guitar, saxophone and he has been teaching jazz piano, bass and keyboard lessons at music schools for 12 years now. Apart from music, he is interested in photography, Japanese culture and food.

JOSIAH

Josiah has worn many hats as a drummer, performer, percussionist, educator and producer in his music journey. He is also a senior founding member of Singapore’s only Samba school, Bloco Singapura, where he leads the group musically, administratively and creatively. A versatile performer, Josiah has been at the forefront of performing batucada music with his trademark ‘drum juggling’ and has covered many different music genres and performances. Apart from performing, Josiah has been currently teaching in Timbre Music Academy as a Drum. Josiah strives to be a contributing member of the art scene and its renaissance.

KELVIN

A humble performer, Kelvin began his music journey playing drums and guitar before deciding to learn bass. He joined various bands to play music, honing his craft as a performer throughout his formative years. He has also toured Tokyo as a band member of Coen, where he composed and arranged two original tunes. Other than performing, Kelvin enjoys cycling and spending time with his family.

KO-HSIN

Cellist Ko-Hsin started learning piano at the age of six and cello studies at eight. Music has always been her passion and she participated in many orchestra, performance, and masterclasses from a young age. She has also won the auditions for Asian Youth Orchestra (Hong Kong) and has cooperated with many notable musicians and conductors touring in Asia. She was awarded a scholarship to attend Master Courses at the International Summer Academy in Austria. Other than performing, Ko-Hsin also taught cello in the USA, Taiwan and Singapore. She has also performed as a Guest Principal Cello with the Philharmonic Orchestra in Singapore. Ko-Hsin is a foodie - she loves bubble tea and cooking!

LIM CHUN

A talented and passionate musician, Lim Chun began his music journey when he started playing the violin at a young age of eight and picked up the viola when he was 14. He was the principal violist for both the Singapore Youth Orchestra and the Asian Youth Orchestra before he began his studies on a scholarship at the Peabody Institute of Music at 17. He went on to continue his studies at Yale University on a full scholarship after his National Service and graduated with a Masters Degree in Music. He currently coaches the viola section of the National University of Singapore Symphony Orchestra.

MATIN

Matin began his journey in music 10 years ago. He has a Degree in Jazz Performance from Lasalle and a Diploma in Music and Audio Technology from the Singapore Polytechnic. He has collaborated with many different musicians in Singapore, the US, UK and Asia. Experiencing different kinds of music, Matin is also part of the Jazz Association of Singapore where he has played the trumpet for the main and youth orchestras since 2017. When he’s not working, he likes to explore standup comedy, architecture, graphic design and loves to doodle.

STELLA

Stella started piano lessons when she was five and cello at eight. She performs extensively with orchestras in Taiwan, France and Singapore as a soloist and orchestral player. During her three years performing at the French music festival Musique en Re Orchestra, she took the opportunity to study cello masterclasses in France as well. She started her career in Singapore by teaching cello and piano in various music schools and classes. She has been part of notable performances such as Michael Buble Touring Asia, The LKY Musical and The Phantom of the Opera 2019.

TING WEI

Ting Wei is a musician, composer and educator. He began pursuing a career in music at the age of 18, graduated with a Diploma in Music & Audio Technology and achieved First Class Honours in BA (Hons) Music in Jazz Performance from LASALLE College of The Arts. As one of Singapore's most sought-after drummers, he has performed at high levels beyond his years and has collaborated with numerous prolific and renowned artistes. An experienced educator in drumming and percussion, he continues to inspire his students with his love for music.

XANTHUS

Xanthus started his music journey at 13. He enrolled in the Singapore Polytechnic, graduating with a Diploma in Music and Audio Technology. He then continued his education at the Lasalle College of the Arts, majoring in Bass and graduating with a Degree in Jazz Performance. With experience in live and studio work, Xanthus plays electric, double and synth bass. Xanthus has also ventured overseas for performances. Aside from performing, Xanthus also works in the studio as a project engineer.
